Got stretched out by a professional today and had to say “please don’t touch my hands - they’re kinda crap”. And then I looked at my hands and said “I know you try hard, but you really aren’t great at being hands.” . Having Rheumatoid arthritis means that my small joints are often immobile, gunked up with my own immune system. Anything that puts pressure on my hands and wrists can be pretty painful, even something as simple as writing a postcard. . . All through college I had a disability accommodation notetaker in classes because difficulty holding a pen made it too hard to keep up with proofs. . . But I appreciate how hard my hands try and how far they’ve come since I have been on MiracleDrug - while each weekly shot costs $800, I have much greater control and use of my hands than I did for 5 years.
